    During this program, based on the book, "The Bullyfree Classroom" (along with other research based materials on bullying), students will gain knowledge of how to identify and effectively deal with bullying.

    Key Concepts

      1.) What bulling behavior includes (In addition to obvious bullying like hitting, we include teasing, threatening, and ostracizing).
      2.) The difference between reporting and tattling
      3.) How and why to report bullying
      4.) What to do if you are being bullied, or see someone being bullied
      5.) Tolerance of those different from you
      6.) Building empathy

    "The 5 Ways to Keep Your School Bullyfree":

      1.) Show Respect by treating others how you want to be treated
      2.) Practice Teamwork by:
        a.) doing your part by reporting bullying and not joining in if you see it happen
        b.) including everyone
        c.) following all rules
      3.) Remembering everyone is special and important at the school
      4.) Stop and think before making decisions
      5.) Learn ways to deal with bullying

    Ways to Deal With Bullying

      1.) Prevent contact with the person who is bullying by:
        a. avoiding the person
        • stay away from where he/she is

        • think of unsafe places and don't go there

        • travel in groups

        b. If the person sees you from a distance you can:
        • look the other way

        • turn around slowly and go the other way

        2.) What if you try all he above, and the person comes up to bully you anyway?
          a. When you speak, look him/her in the eye, stand up straight and speak calmly
          b. Tell him/her how you feel and to stop. If he/she doesn't say the same thing and walk away
          c. Agree with him/her and walk away
          d. Use the broken record strategy (keep repeating the same thing)
          e. Use humor
          f. If nothing works, or you're in danger, get an adult to help
